16
Principles of Empowered Relationships
by
Doug & Tracy Kelley
Note:
These principles are the same characteristics that make Doug & Tracy
Kelley's relationship one of the best on the planet. They are offered
here as a list only. More will be written in time as a further means of
explanation.
These
16 Principles are meant as a stand-alone list. They are being consolidated
into 10 basic principles in a future eBook.
-
Know
and accept yourself
-
For
personal/intimate relationships, find someone with whom you have much in
common (high compatibility)
-
Show
mutual honor and respect for personal boundaries (yours and theirs)
-
Communicate
-
Never
betray another’s trust
-
Be
open to change, new ideas, and others’ points of view—be flexible
-
Don’t
try to change, control, or manipulate others—accept others for who they
are, not who you want them to be
-
Have
realistic expectations of yourself and others—no perfectionism
—allow yourself and them to be "human"
-
Don’t
take yourself too seriously—say “I’m Sorry” if necessary
-
Forgive
and forget everyday mistakes freely (excluding a serious betrayal of
trust)
-
Respond,
don’t react—think before you speak
-
Don’t
take others for granted
-
Don’t
be critical or accusatory
-
Don’t
do for others that which they could and should do for themselves
-
Be
a warm, positive, and encouraging friend—celebrate others’ successes
-
Settle
only for Win-Win
